Sebastopol – Best Places In Sonoma County – Volume 7

Did you guess Sebastopol? If so, then you know your socially conscious communities.
Sebastopol California is the funkiest place in Sonoma County, and definitely puts the “fun” in “funky.” Sebastopol also anchors what is known as “West County” and has an attitude and style all its own. West County of course refers to the western portion of Sonoma County. Sebastopol, as you can see in the picture is a Nuclear Free Zone, as well as the sister city of Yamauchi-Machi, Japan. 
The residents of Sebastopol are very socially aware, environmentally forward, and active in their community, both locally, and as a part of the larger community.
Sebastopol is a community where the low impact living meets a community first spirit that I have never felt anywhere else…it truly is unique. I’d love to have a great restaurant pick for you, but my favorite Sebastopol restaurant, The West County Grille, shut its doors last year. The West County Grille was owned by Sebastopol resident Les Claypool, of Primus fame.
Sebastopol is currently discussing redevelopment of the northeast part of town (As Of Late April, 2009), and the goal here is “intelligent redevelopment.” If the past is any indication of the future, the forward thinking of Sebastopol will lead to another desirable area, with solid planning, and strong Real Estate values. The prices of Sebastopol Homes are higher than those in most of the rest of Sonoma County as there is a demand for the unique West County Lifestyle. Even though the prices tend to be higher in Sebastopol, there is a constant demand for Sebastopol Real Estate. This demand for a “higher priced good” can only be explained by a true uniqueness that cannot be duplicated anywhere else. Walk through the downtown, go into the local markets, go into the Sebastopol Whole Foods and get some oatmeal in the morning, talk to the locals, and you will begin to get a sense of what we are trying to describe. It is more than an Earth First attitude, more than a sense of community, it really has to be experienced.
Many of our clients interested in Sebastopol’s unique west county lifestyle also consider Redwood Valley Real Estate and Freestone Real Estate as well. The areas, while not as well known, are close in proximity to Sebastopol, and may have a little bit lower price point than Sebastopol itself.
