Cruisin’ Through Cazadero

Cazadero California is a great little vacation spot. If you really want to get away, then Cazadero may be the best place to do just that. Cazadero is located 13 miles northwest of Guerneville, and is truly away from it all. Here is a little tip that will save you some time if you have never been to Cazadero. Do not trust your GPS to get there…the trip is an easy one if you know the way. Heading West on River Road (California Highway 116) turn North onto Cazadero Highway. Easy Enough right? HINT: Do not trust a GPS that says to take the Austin Creek Road/Old Cazadero Road route, as this is no longer a navigable route. Just this weekend I had to take several calls from someone who was lost on their way to Cazadero…after a little discussion, she found her way and made it there.
I am digressing…this hard to get to spot is well worth the drive. Cazadero is located within the redwoods of western Sonoma County, and things are a bit slower here. The main place to hang out is the Cazadero General Store which has been there since 1899. Many locals also meet for coffee, rustic breads and pastries at Raymond’s Bakery at Elm Grove in Cazadero.
Cazadero is known for being in the “Banana Belt” where fertile ground allows you to grow many varieties of plants and vegetables easily. Many Cazadero residents keep their own garden growing fresh fruits and vegetables and some even grow their own grapes.
