Petaluma California – The World’s Egg Basket

Petaluma California has long been known as “The World’s Egg Basket.” I know there are some chicken farms in Petaluma, even organic and free range varieties, but The Hatchery building on Petaluma Boulevard North is now full of Businesses and nothing to do with poultry.
Is Petaluma STILL the World’s Egg Basket? I do see the “Keep Petaluma Eggcentric” bumper stickers all the time, but I am not sure if the name fits as it did in years past. I am sure some long time residents and farmers will scoff at that question, but I seriously have no idea. I am not even sure if Petaluma is the Egg Basket of Sonoma County or even California?

Given the “World’s Egg Basket” moniker…does this mean that Petaluma is also the world capital of other things? The feather capital of the world? The omelette capital of the world? The squawk capital of the world? Chickens do squawk right? I am not sure, and these questions do not keep me up at night, but I this morning my mind is going 100 miles a minute…unfortunately not much that is productive is racing through my mind.
