Sonoma County Backyard Makeover

Every time I go into a home to show I really enjoy looking around. No matter if it is the same floorplan I have seen countless times before, I love seeing what people do with them…how they decorate, flooring choices, moving a wall or two, kitchen and bath updates, and also the landscaping and yardwork.

One of my favorite places to see in each new homes I visit is a well manicured backyard. I also really enjoy backyards with a well designed water feature…not a junky fountain, but a well designed, in ground water feature. Sometimes I see a nice koi pond, or a small pond with lillies and other plants, but I always love a fountain.

Outdoor Fountain - Tranquil Sonoma County Backyard Centerpiece

The fountain pictured here is much larger than it looks…about 20 feet long including the retention pool. A modern look and clean lines are always appealing to me.I liked the clean lines, the blue pebbles in the pool, the way the copper fountain housing had reacted with the water to have a rich patina, and I liked the soothing sound it made drowning out any other noises. This was a necessary option due to the road this particular home backup up to, and made the best of a bad situation.

Initially, this space was a simple lawn with no character. With a little imagination, some planning, some money and some sweat, the backyard was transformed into a place of relaxation and entertainment.

Those who do not love yardwork will also enjoy the low maintenance yard that a fountain or koi pond allow. If you have a picture of a great fountain that may give ideas to other readers, whether in Sonoma County or not, be sure to share it with us so we can post it for all to see…be proud of your hard work, and show it off!
